The Member of Parliament for Wa East Constituency, Hon. Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has donated GHS 5,000 to support the 2026 Home Radio Annual Inter-Community Championship, reaffirming his commitment to youth development and community cohesion through sports.
The donation was presented on behalf of the lawmaker by the Wa East District Chief Executive, Hon. Adamu Shaibu. During the presentation, Hon. Shaibu disclosed that Dr. Jasaw has also pledged to provide a trophy and medals to enhance the competition and motivate participating teams.
This year’s championship will feature five communities from the Wa East District,Goripie, Kalworgu, Dupari, Manwe, and Bulenga, who will compete alongside other communities from across the Upper West Region.
Speaking on the significance of the tournament, Hon. Adamu Shaibu emphasized that sports remain a powerful tool for promoting unity, discipline, and positive youth engagement. He noted that the championship aligns perfectly with this year’s theme, “The Role of the Youth in the Fight Against Drug Abuse,” by providing young people with constructive opportunities to develop their talents, build healthy relationships, and stay away from harmful substances.
The Home Radio Inter-Community Championship has grown to become one of the biggest sporting events in the Upper West Region, bringing communities together and fostering peaceful coexistence through football. This year’s edition has attracted 32 participating communities from across the region.
The competition is scheduled to kick off on 19th June 2026 at the B.K. Adama Sports Complex, with defending champions Sokparyiri taking on last year’s losing finalists, Biihee, in the opening match.
As anticipation builds, stakeholders and community members are encouraged to support the tournament, which continues to serve as a platform for youth empowerment, community unity, and advocacy against drug abuse.
